Celebrating the human touch: Illo artists push back on the AI starter pack trend
It's been hard to escape the flood of AI-gen starter pack dolls taking over social media platforms and timelines this month, but we've loved to see the artist push back, proud and loud, under the #starterpacknoAI trend.
Sharing our illo artists brilliant takes coming from Sofia Ossman, Mai Ngo, Lottie Withers, Anita Bagdi, Sandie Sonke, Trisha Srivastava or lastly Driss Chaoui, who - alongside a great piece - shared some sharp insights:
Generative AI adds no artistic value or innovation to anything, let’s be clear on that.
Art movements were born from revisiting the old with a new approach, and from breaking the rules of what was expected at the time, not from regurgitating stolen work. What we’re in part facing is artistic stagnation, and don’t even get me started on the ethical, ecological, and economical impact of this absolute scam of a model. Many people talked about it better than I ever will.
Anyway, we survived the NFTs, we’ll survive the AI craze, look at this cat diva instead!
At Illo, we strongly stand against AI-generated art. We’re proud to celebrate human creativity, protect our artists, and make space for real voices.
