Introducing our new artist Caterina Delli Carri! Currently living in the Tuscan countryside, she is inspired by the nature, everyday life, old photos and her childhood memories. Her works that she creates from her inspirations have a delicate and meticulous feel that caught our eye. Caterina has also had previous experience in educational books, magazines, children’s books and drawings for different clients around the world!
We did a little Q&A with her to find out more about her inspirations, styles and hobbies. Keep reading our Q&A session with her earlier this month.
When did you start illustrating?
I've always loved to draw. Since I was a child I invented stories and I put them on paper, I designed characters and I used to draw everywhere. After Highschool, my curiosity brought me to explore several kinds of visual art, I studied Set Design and Visual Arts, however drawing has always been part of my daily life. This passion led me to illustration. I started by taking some courses in some important Italian illustration schools and then continued on my own devoting myself to it.
Who has been the most supportive in your illustration career, perhaps your teacher, family, friends?
Surely my family and friends. They have always believed in me and encouraged me a lot in my artistic career.
Did you always think art was something that was going to be a major part of your life?
Yes, I always thought so. Creating art is my greatest passion, I couldn't imagine my life without it. It makes me feel good, it allows me to express myself, overcome my limits and get to know myself better.
What is your favourite subject matter to illustrate?
One of my favourite subject matter is nature. I like to investigate the relationship between humans and nature, I love to capture even the smallest details and
textures of flowers and plants, study them and invent new ones. I also love to represent the emotions and situations of everyday life.
How would you describe your style?
I could say delicate and meticulous. Delicate for the choice of subjects and for the choice of colors. Meticulous because I love to take care of even the smallest
details within an illustration.
What is your favourite collaboration to date?
The collaboration I am most fond of dates back two years ago, when I worked on the cover of an American magazine. It was my first job as a professional and it
was fundamental for my growth as an illustrator. I had never worked with an Art Director before and it was a really positive experience.
What interested you about being represented by Illo Agency?
I was immediately impressed by the variety of artists who are part of it and the desire to promote very different styles in a fresh and genuine way.
Do you have a favourite author, film director, or designer?
I really love Wes Anderson's work. It's brilliant and a great source of inspiration for me.
Are you working on any personal projects you can share with us?
I am currently working on a very interesting book that talks about identity, homosexuality and parenting and I carry on personal projects related to my
childhood.
Do you listen to podcasts? If so, do you have a favourite?
Yes, I switch podcasts to music while I'm working. I often listen to podcasts from the Women of Illustration community.
