We asked Yasmin a few more questions to dive deeper…
What would you say is your best piece of work / collaboration to date, and why?
I think my best piece of work so far it's "HOME". A series of personal illustrations of women doing Yoga. This work defined my drawing style at a time when I was struggling to find a niche. The reception was fantastic and set me on the right path to develop my technique.
Where do you like to go to be inspired, or how do you find your inspiration?
As someone who enjoys staying at home, my inspiration comes mainly from films, music, and music videos. I also draw inspiration from other artists' work by visiting Artist Alleys, museums, exhibitions, and decor stores.
Is there anything you'd say you would be a good advocate for? Please elaborate if so.
I advocate for feminist and gender equality causes. I also support the cultural diffusion of my home country, Brazil, and of my Japanese ancestry.
What would you say sets you apart from other illustrators?Something you feel is unique to you.
Although I work with vector illustrations, I like to add texture to my pieces to bring some liveliness to the art. I also strive to use vibrant palettes and contrasting colors so that my illustrations have a vibrant and cheerful feel.
If you have done paid commissions prior to joining the agency, what would you say is something that clients repeatedly come to you for (up to now)?
My clients praise my reliability, efficiency, and respect for deadlines. I often take on projects with tight deadlines but still deliver high-quality artwork.
How would you describe your style?
My style blends dynamic lines and intense colors, creating illustrations that capture the complexity of human relationships and the beauty of differences. I explore various themes, from pop culture to social issues, always with sensitivity and attention to detail.
Please give a scenario of a project that would mean the world to you, if you were offered it - something that connects to something meaningful to you.
I would love to work on a project that appreciates my Brazilian or Japanese culture, where I can explore the different facets of these two countries.
Are you working on any personal projects you can share with us?
I am currently preparing to participate in an artists' alley where I will showcase illustrations and original products that reflect my art. I enjoy capturing everyday scenes from the city I live in and incorporating elements that connect people to the illustrations.
Finally, if you were to illustrate a book related to a real life person, who would that be?
I really enjoy sports, so I would love to illustrate a book about Olympic women, such as Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade or the legendary Simone Biles.
