Fifa Adoglo is a freelance illustrator based in Benin, West Africa

Fifa Adoglo is a freelance illustrator based in Benin, West Africa. As a child, she always found joy in drawing, from doodling alongside her mom to epic drawing duels with her brother. She brings stories to life with vibrant colours and delightfully spooky themes.

Here’s where we found out more...

What would you say is your best piece of work/ collaboration to date, and why?

I consider my best work to be the illustration I created of my best friend and her little son. The process felt very meaningful to me, capturing the tenderness and warmth that made their special bond so beautiful.

Where do you like to go to be inspired, or how do you find your inspiration?

I find inspiration from many places, whether it's a powerful book, a catch song, a beautiful animation, my lived experiences and even from superstitious beliefs and stories in my culture. Each of these offers something unique that shape ideas and sparks my creativity.

Is there anything you'd say you would be a good advocate for? Please elaborate if so.

I want to use my art to advocate women and girls, showing our strength and challenges we face. Storytelling through art can raise awareness, spark important conversations and inspire change.

What would you say sets you apart from other illustrators? Something you feel is unique to you.

I would say what sets me apart from other illustrators would be my ability to change my style to suit different stories. I aim to balance fun and whimsical elements with deeper and meaningful themes.

If you have done paid commissions prior to joining the agency, what would you say is something that clients repeatedly come to you for (up to now)?

Clients repeatedly choose me because I deliver great work on time and really focus on their ideas. I'm attentive to their feedback and ready to make changes until they're happy. My desire to learn and explore new concepts , helps me add a fresh touch to every project, which is why they trust me with their illustrations.

How would you describe your style?

My style features a delightful mix of themes that create beautiful and vibrant visuals. Detailed and with bold colours. blends fantasy and realism

Please give a scenario of a project that would mean the world to you, if you were offered it - something that connects to something meaningful to you.

A project that would mean the world to me, would be getting a chance to paint a section of the mural in Cotonou, Benin. It would let me combine my art with the our culture, working with local and international artists, creating something that celebrates Benin's rich history. This mural turned my favourite walking path into an outdoor museum, and I'm always awed by the beautiful works on it. I would be honoured to contribute to it.

Finally, if you were to illustrate a book related to a real life person, who would that be?

If I could illustrate a book about someone real, I'd totally pick Queen Amina of Zaria. A warrior Queen, leading men to epic battles and winning, shaping the Hausa kingdom. Her story is super inspiring.
