Welcome Simone Altamura to Illo Agency!
Simone's artwork plays with metaphors and conceptual thinking within his artwork. There are some wonderful colours in the ore vectored style artwork that uses subtle elements within it to display an alternative point of view within what would seemingly be something different at first glance. Keep reading our Q&A session with her earlier this month ...
Q: So Simone, can we ask who you would consider as some of your favourite illustrators?
A: My artistic inspirations are: history of art, the works of the masters of illustration and graphics, such as Ferenc Pinter, Milton Glaser and many others. But obviously I also look at the work of some of my emblazoned colleagues, whom I estimate and admire. Other inspirations may come from movies, books, news and everyday situations.
Q: Amazing - so how would you describe your style, in your own words ...
A: I like to think that my style is simple, in the sense that it is essential and sober, devoid of frills. I usually use few elements and few colours, always in contrast to each other, and I focus mainly on the concept, on the message I want to convey, which must be as clear and direct as possible.
Q: We love it! So, when you're not illustrating, what do you get up to in your spare time?
A: In my spare time I love reading, listening to music, going to the cinema and when its possible, travelling.
Q: Great to know more about you. What is your favourite thing to illustrate?
A: I love to draw hands. I often use this element as a kind of Deus Ex Machina, which makes things happen, helping to express the idea I want to communicate. I consider it a kind of trademark.
Q: And finally, why did you want to sign with Illo?
A: I wanted to sign with Illo because I like the idea of working with a new, young agency, which has a fresh, cool and dynamic way of showing itself. But of course I also looked closely at its artists portfolio, and I noticed that there are no others with a style very similar to mine.
Thank you to Simone for taking the time to give us a bit more of an insight into the artist behind the beautiful artwork. To work with Simone, check out some more of his work before getting in touch with one of our Illo-agents who can bring your project to life.
