¡Viva Mexico! illustrated by Luis Pinto for DK Travel
We were so pleased when DK Travel books got in touch looking for the perfect match for their new title ¡Viva Mexico!
This book was in line with their existing series: Hello, South Korea and Be More Japan both being part of the Destination Celebration family of Gift and Inspiration books.
They were looking for an authentic artist to create a full wrap around jacket illustration including the text, which is when I introduced an electric and very capable illo artist to them; Luis Pinto.
Luis Pinto is a Mexican graphic designer/illustrator currently based in Guatemala. Most of Luis’ work is colourful, conceptual and expressive. He loves to use and experiment with a variety of mediums. He’s influenced by folk stories, daily routines, graphic novels, art history and pop culture. His illustrations appear in advertising, murals and magazines, for clients that include Google, Adobe, Target, Little White Lies, Guzmán & Gómez, Tequila Don Julio and many more.
Back to the book!…. it’s a beautiful celebration of all things Mexico, from the country’s heritage and traditions to its modern culture and influence on other countries around the world. It aims to get readers closer to the country, illuminating complex subjects in an accessible way, being inspirational rather than practical. They successfully have gone beyond the obvious, covering both famous and lesser-known aspects of Mexican culture, so a well-informed reader who may have visited Mexico or who has Mexican heritage will find this enlightening.
Luis was then asked to illustrate the chapter openers in the book, each showing the content of each chapter, and link to the jacket, the graphic story-telling of Luis’ style bring a fantastic energy inside too!
