Spotlight on Katelyn Mckenna’s Work for ShoutOut Ireland
Some projects feel especially meaningful because they give space to conversations that are often missing. That’s what makes Katelyn McKenna’s work for ShoutOut Ireland feel so important.
For NeuroQueer, a new booklet exploring the intersection of neurodivergence and LGBTQI+ identity, Katelyn created the illustrations and design for a resource built around real stories from queer neurodivergent people in Ireland. Alongside practical tools and myth-busting, the booklet encourages understanding, visibility and community in a space where these overlapping identities are rarely discussed together.
As with much of her work, Katelyn’s process began with rough concept sketches before evolving into full layouts that helped shape the overall feel of the booklet, even while parts of the content were still being developed. Being involved so early on gave her the chance to help define the project’s visual direction from the ground up.
"Delighted to have been involved in something so special and meaningful. A huge thank you to the whole team, especially those I worked closely with, Elaine, Ollie, Salvador and Ciara, for making this such an important and impactful project. And having so much trust in my vision with the illustration and design!"
