Our Queerest Century, Veronica Johnson for the LA Times

We're excited to share this piece of work by Veronica Johnson for the LA Times, an illustration that is part of a larger project called Our Queerest Century.

It is a package of 6 essays, 5 poll stories (centred around a landmark poll conducted by the LA Times and the Kaiser Family Foundation about the queer experience in America) profiles of queer youth and a timeline of queer history from 1924-2024.

With queer lives and culture under threat, Our Queerest Century highlights the contributions of LGBTQ+ people since the 1924 founding of the nation’s first gay rights organisation.

The contributors to the project, writers, editors, myself, and all commissioned illustrators are queer, telling our story.  They asked Veronica Johnson to work on a story about the complicated relationship between Hollywood and the queer community.

They had a colour palette that is being used across all of the illustrations to hold them all together.
