Marcos Aguasanta has many different disciplines, illustration, dance, performance and writing his own stories.







When did you start illustrating?
At the age of 14 years old, when I decided to write Evernoth at this time there was some contest at my school in which I won some prizes, this gave me the confidence to want it to be my profession. But I would also say that I have never stopped writing in my life.
Who has been the most supportive in your illustration career, perhaps your teacher, family, friends?
I've got some friends, close friends who have been very supportive with me, but I would say that those who have been more supportive to me are my best friend Jonathan, and Carles, my life partner.
Did you always think art was something that was going to be a major part of your life?
Yes, I even remember a conversation I had with my mother when I was ten or so. She told me. "I know you want to be an artist, and I know you are, but well... artist lives are difficult." And as she is a religious person, she also thought art is always surrounding by the edge of Christian values and morality.
What is your favourite subject matter to illustrate?
Trees as a symbol of life and connection to nature and people, characters fantasy or not. Because as an artist, human behaviour and human meaning is what I'm looking to know and comprehend.
How would you describe your style?
Post manga/Disney cartoony, but I consider that I have 3 styles
-Realistic manga
-Disney Pixar cartoony
-and the one I call pixel deconstructionism which tries to explore Images and people from a deconstructed perspective that is at the same time realistic and none…
What is your favourite collaboration to date?
I think my personal projects in which I had to collaborate with many other artists by making music, animation and cooperating, in the illustrations for the projects for example Pictoplanet, which is an educational game in which I had to collaborate with animators programmer and with researchers, who help me complete an educational method I created, this method is based upon the video games usage in language acquisition.
What interested you about being represented by Illo Agency?
Make illustration as a living go out Spanish market which I think is not very good when you don’t have the necessary contacts.
Also, it's really interesting for me to be represented by an agency that has these values of multicultural pluralism and caring about diversity.
Do you have a favourite author, film director, or designer?
I would say that I admire Charlie Kaufman Umberto Cuaron Peter Jackson and Tarantino
My favourite illustrator is Alan lee
My favourite concept artists are Sergey Kolasov and Zhengyi Wang
Are you working on any personal projects you can share with us?
Yes, a couple of video games and some personal projects which are illustrated novels.
Do you listen to podcasts? If so, do you have a favourite?
I listen to Contrapoints; a Youtuber, Lindsay Ellys and Nerdwriter. What I do is to make a Playlist of these YouTubers, and listen to their shows while I work on drawing… or perhaps listening to audiobooks.
