10 Stories to Make a Difference
You may have already come across Pathways, (a flagship of Pop Up
Projects) it's a new two-year illustration programme for a diverse group
of talented and ambitious artists who want to be the next generation of
children’s illustrators. Which is of course music to our ears!
It's made possible by significant investment from 12 global publishers and 9 university illustration courses, and through grants from Arts Council England and Creative Scotland. You can find out more about Pathways here

After Illo's initial introduction with Dylan Calder (Executive & Creative Director of Pop Up Projects) in July this year, it began with a 'roundtable' of literary/ artist agents to explore the role that we could play
in the Pathways into Children's Publishing programme.

We're happy to say we've continued our relationship, and we're very honoured/ proud to be involved in Pop Up's upcoming Birthday. To mark their 10th anniversary in 2021, they are launching 10 new
children's stories, which currently include two of the Illo artists; Daniel Ido and Danica De La Silva Periera.
The full collection
involves 20 published and unpublished writers and illustrators, bringing new (BAME,
LGBTQ, under-26) voices and diverse stories into print for the first
time. 10 Stories is also a way of testing the water to see
if Pop Up Projects might evolve with a publishing branch...
We can't wait to share more with you, in the video below you can see Danica's thoughts on the title she is illustrating and her involvement with this organisation.
You may ask how you can get involved...
Money raised from their crowdfunder they've just launched, will
pay for commissioning and production, and sales from the books will fund their literature projects in schools, communities, with vulnerable young
people, and with talented writers and illustrators.
Three of the
Pathways illustrators - Ria Dastidar, Sahar Haghoo, Jacinta read - are
illustrating three of the books.

Pledges
allow you to pre-buy the books (and/or donate them to
schools/children's groups) plus make a donation to their work, starting
from £28. You can make a pledge here: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/10-stories-to-make-a-difference
We've
invested £2million in children's literature over 10 years - buying and
promoting books, commissioning authors, producing events, and developing
talent. But like everyone in the cultural sector we've been badly hit
by Covid, not just financially, losing £200,000 in income this year.
Worse still, half way through this crowdfunder, 25% of our staff are
down with Covid.
