Drawing from a background in furniture design and a close relationship with nature, Saulo Santana Cabrera creates illustrations that are gesture-built, earth-toned, instinctively composed and full of plants!

From his rural studio in the Canary Islands, he begins each piece with effortless lines that take shape as kind, slightly quirky characters—infused with a quiet humour. He especially enjoys illustrating maps, characters, books and stories that honour the quiet intelligence of forests and the wider natural world—spaces where time slows, details matter, and a sense of wonder gently takes root. The result is a wood-scented visual language, shaped by years of working with natural materials like wood and ceramics, that feels grounded, tactile and handmade—even when digital.

Inspired by organic forms and everyday scenes, his work invites children (and adults) into stories where curiosity unfolds slowly, and nothing feels rushed.
