When did you start illustrating?
I began to illustrate since I was a child, I just began to express myself. I have memories of drawings from when I was 4 or 5 years old.
Who has been the most supportive in your illustration career, perhaps your teacher, family, friends?
My parents were very understanding since I was a child, they encouraged me, giving me many illustrated books. And some professors at the university also supported me and taught me a lot.
Did you always think art was something that was going to be a major part of your life?
Yes. Art was always important in my life. And when I was growing this feeling was increasing.
What is your favourite subject matter to illustrate?
I am interested in several topics. Some favorite subjects that I like to mix in my illustrations are: mythology, magic, nature, heroic, social, timeless, and many others.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as modern, but influenced by visual arts, cinema and illustration from different historical eras and different cultures.
What is your favourite collaboration to date?
It is very difficult to choose only one. But I can tell you what I think right now. I am really very happy to collaborate with a writer named Graciela Bialet and create together an illustrated book called "Juanito Botines". This book tells the story of a little boy who lives on the street and has no friends. But one day he meets the Sun (the king of the universe) and they become friends. I like that encounter between the social and the mythological and magical.
What interested you about being represented by Illo Agency?
I liked Illo how professional they look and the quality of the illustrators they represent. But I also liked the variety of illustrators and the agency's search for something different.
Do you have a favourite author, film director, or designer?
I have many! I can tell you some now. Favorite writers: José Saramago and Jorge Luis Borges. Favorite directors: Martin Scorsese, Akira Kurosawa and Quentin Tarantino. Favorite designers: Milton Glaser, Saul Bass and Shigeo Fukuda.
Are you working on any personal projects you can share with us?
Right now I am working on an illustrated book. It is my illustrated version of Don Quixote de la Mancha! I am very anxious and happy, I hope to show it soon.
Do you listen to podcasts? If so, do you have a favourite?
Yes! I listen to podcasts. I really like those who talk about visual arts, movies, comics, history, nature, astronomy, paranormal topics and international politics.
