Tasia Graham’s Community Mural in Acton

Illo's own Tasia Graham recently completed a beautiful, community-driven mural for a playground in Acton. Commissioned by Ealing Council, the project set out to bring residents and local school children into the creative process to ensure the mural reflected the spirit of the neighbourhood.

Tasia shares what went into the planning, inspiration, and implementation of this vibrant mural:

“I started with workshops with the community in Acton. We asked parents and children what sort of mural they wanted. Most of the parents chose an abstract style. We had parents and children submit drawings which I then incorporated into the design. We used flowers, butterflies and birds to represent nature. I used the same colours we found in the playground for consistency and kept the fluid nature of my drawings throughout the mural.

My favourite part of the mural was working with a lovely Greek family who lived across from the playground. They helped me carry my paints every morning and invited their children to help me paint. The community was overjoyed with the mural and I received a huge thank you from them and Ealing Council.”

Blending her distinctive style with community voices, Tasia has created a work that feels both personal and collective. Her ability to transform everyday spaces into vibrant, nature-inspired environments makes her an exciting artist to watch as she continues to bring colour and connection to future projects.
