meet brandon isuiza, the big lover of nature
Brandon Isuiza is an illustrator from Iquitos, a city in the Peruvian Amazon. Growing up surrounded by nature, Brandon draws inspiration from the region’s flora, fauna, folklore, and Latin American popular art.
We sat down with Brandon as we asked him some questions about his creative process and other inspirations.
What would you say is your best piece of work / collaboration to date, and why?
I'd say my best project (work) and collaboration was with Inca Kola. It was a dream and an honor for me to be selected to illustrate and represent my city of Iquitos. I created everything from the key visual for their campaign, a mural with another artist in collaboration, and also illustrated the limited- edition bottle label with an illustrator from Cusco. I truly loved doing illustrations for that brand.
Where do you like to go to be inspired, or how do you find your inspiration?
I am inspired by many things, from music, cultures, my dreams but my greatest inspiration is Mother Nature (flora and fauna), also Latin American folk art and I love to enjoy the process of my illustrations.
Is there anything you'd say you would be a good advocate for? Please elaborate if so.
I would like to defend and collaborate with good causes such as the protection of children and the protection of Mother Nature.
What would you say sets you apart from other illustrators? Something you feel is unique to you.
Although my style is always evolving, I like to be genuine when illustrating, putting my heart and soul into each work and making it full of color.
If you have done paid commissions prior to joining the agency, what would you say is something that clients repeatedly come to you for (up to now)?
People often tell me that my work is very colorful, full of life, and transmits good vibes and joy at the same time.
How would you describe your style?
I would say that my style is very colorful, cheerful, with soul, my characters are mostly in a dreamlike atmosphere with a lot of nature.
Please give a scenario of a project that would mean the world to you, if you were offered it - something that connects to something meaningful to you.
I've always imagined illustrating for an Apple Music or YouTube project, also developing an album cover for an artist, or creating the entire visual for a music festival. It would all be so beautiful.
Are you working on any personal projects you can share with us?
When I'm not commissioning projects, I usually work on more free illustrations where I can experiment with shapes, strokes, colors and textures. I usually share it on my networks, mostly on Instagram.
Finally, if you were to illustrate a book related to a real life person, who would that be?
I would love to illustrate Jane Goodall's story or also illustrate new stories that honor the life and history of the characters.
