Introducing Camipepe, a creative duo from Chile
Meet Camila Olivares (Cami) and José Flores (Pepe) aka Camipepe, two independent illustrators living in La Serena, Chile. Combining passion, talent, and a love for storytelling through their vibrant and cheerful illustrations, they started working together just after graduating.
With the ability to capture life in playful and bold vector art, their work has since graced spaces and brands worldwide.
From their favorite collaboration - a monumental Adidas mural celebrating young athletes in Santiago de Chile -to personal projects, Camipepe thrive on challenges and creativity. Inspired by fashion, art, and film, they infuse each project with colour and joy, bringing in their unique perspective! Advocates for animal welfare, they cherish meaningful work, like their first-ever commission promoting the adoption of stray dogs.
Their dream? Designing a Google Doodle—melding their love for iconic storytelling with universal reach.
What would you say is your best piece of work / collaboration to date, and why?
The best illustration project is the mural we did for Adidas at the Costanera Center Mall in Santiago de Chile. A mural for the Kids sector that represents the little athletes. It was a challenge to work in such a big space and also an honour since it is a brand that we love.
Where do you like to go to be inspired, or how do you find your inspiration?
We get our inspiration from things we like such as fashion, art, cinematic pieces and decoration, for us it is important to take the time to enjoy other types of art in order to be inspired when creating an illustration.
Is there anything you'd say you would be a good advocate for? Please elaborate if so.
We care about the well-being of animals and we try to collaborate whenever we can. Our first illustration commission was to promote the adoption of street dogs, it was a very important and touching project for us.
What would you say sets you apart from other illustrators? Something you feel is unique to you.
Our illustration style, although always evolving, maintains its fun and colourful essence. We’re always on the lookout for new things that inspire us to include in our illustrations, these details make them more interesting and unique.
If you have done paid commissions prior to joining the agency, what would you say is something that clients repeatedly come to you for (up to now)?
Many times people write to us because they like our style and we are very responsible and committed to each project, that makes people want to work with us again.
How would you describe your style?
It is a very colourful, cheerful style with unique characters. It is simple because of its at colours and limited colour palette but it can have complex compositions and elements or characters with many details. As they are vector illustrations it is a very versatile style and can be adapted to all formats.
Please give a scenario of a project that would mean the world to you, if you were offered it - something that connects to something meaningful to you
Since we started working together as illustrators we’ve thought that it would be great to make the illustration for the google doodle, which is the illustration that google puts together with its logo to celebrate some important date. As it is an idea that we have had since we started in the world of illustration, it would be very satisfying to do it.
Are you working on any personal projects you can share with us?
Whenever we have some free time we spend it creating new personal illustrations to experiment and keep working on our style. At the moment we’re finishing an illustration about an abstract art gallery that will also have an animated version.
Finally, if you were to illustrate a book related to a real life person, who would that be?
We love art history and it would be great to make an illustrated book of some of our favorite painters, such as Jean-Michel Basquiat or Berthe Morisot, because in addition to their works, their life stories are very inspiring.
