inequality within tennis

The legend herself, Serena Williams, recently returned to tennis wearing a badass catsuit that was designed to protect her body against blood-clots, following the difficult birth of her daughter.

The outfit was met with criticism from the French Tennis Federation, who swiftly banned Serena from wearing it agin in future.

The illustrative piece by Illo artist, Carlos Perez, ridicules the level of inequality that still exists within sport today. Depicting one super skimpy skirt and a deep-sea diving helmet, nudey-hues flash between the limited colour palette.

Like any clever editorial creation, Carlos' illustration suggests that the typical outfits expected to be worn by female tennis players are unnecessarily sexualised and downright ridiculous in modern society.
