Hoang Giang's Flower Block Shortlisted for Wainwright Prize
We’re thrilled to share that Flower Block, illustrated by Hoang Giang and written by Lanisha Butterfield, has been shortlisted for the Children’s Wainwright Prize for Picture Books 2025.
This year marks a bold new chapter in the Wainwright Prize’s journey. 2025 sees the debut of a distinct Children’s Wainwright Prize for Picture Books, recognising how powerful illustrations can be in sparking young readers’ connection to the natural world. Her artwork in Flower Block is a perfect example of why this new category matters.
Giang's vibrant, nature-inspired illustrations bring Jeremiah’s sunflower adventure to life, bursting with colour, movement, and heart. This book is a glorious celebration of the power of nature to bring communities together.
Born in Dalat, Vietnam, and now based in Ho Chi Minh City, Hoang Giang always seeks to make her characters feel alive and she has successfully done so in Flower Block.
She says, “It’s an honour to be named alongside so many wonderful books that celebrate the magic of nature and the quiet power of stories.”
Congratulations to Giang on this exciting recognition!
