Cheyne Gallarde illustrates Drag Queen Oracle; Running Press, by comics veteran Steve Foxe

Illo represented artist Cheyne Gallarde has made a name for himself re-imagining drag queens in a style inspired by vintage comic books, which made him a perfect fit to illustrate Drag Queen Oracle: 40 Cards to Help Slay on Life’s Runway, written by comics veteran Steve Foxe. This gorgeously illustrated oracle deck was produced by RP Minis and is on sale on the Hachette Book Group website.

Frances Soo Ping Chow, VP and creative director at Running Press, tapped Cheyne to illustrate this oracle deck after seeing his portfolio filled with what he calls "drag queens re-imagined as modern day superheroes," including Cheyne's contributions to projects like Category is: Cocktails that celebrate the queer community in colourful and cheeky artwork.

Drag Queen Oracle includes 40 full-color illustrated cards, a full-colour illustrated companion book, and a keepsake magnetic closure box. Over the course of spring to fall last year, Cheyne brought this deck to life by illustrating characters like The Activist and The Mother, expanded on in an A-to-Z Guide to Drag. We are sure that those interested in divination among the LGBTQIA+ community and allies will love the bold and beautiful illustrations in this Drag Queen Oracle. See above for images from the entire deluxe set.

Cheyne Gallarde (he/him/his) is a queer artist who was born and raised in Hawaii, but now lives in San Francisco. In 2019, he won a National Advertising Award for his illustrations of LGBTQ icons like Marsha P Johnson and Harvey Milk, created for LOGOTV. In 2020, his cover art for Penguin Books' queer-centric “Legendary Children” was released to much praise. Cheyne loves working with clients like True Religion, Johnson & Johnson, and Netflix who allow him to showcase queer people in a proud and positive light. When not drawing or painting, Cheyne loves to unwind with video games, binge-watch trashy reality TV & take blurry pics of his rescue dog Rocket.
