Circle Yuen

Hello, I'm Circle Yuen, an author-illustrator born in Hong Kong and now based in Nottingham, UK. My picture books are a blend of emotionally resonant storytelling and texture-rich illustrations, drawing on mixed media and digital techniques to craft healing narratives. What sets my work apart is its foundation in an "Own Voice" perspective, reflecting intricate family dynamics from my personal experience. My creations speak to children's emotions, offering a gentle space for expression often left unspoken.

Being a finalist for the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition and a FAB Prize Art Winner has been humbling. My debut book, 'Our Dance,' a collaboration with the National Association of Child Contact Centres, is a significant milestone. This project merges personal narrative with community engagement, serving as both a story and a valuable resource. Through my work, I aim to bridge gaps between children, families, and professionals, advocating for social justice and empathy.

Rooted in my Hong Kong heritage and shaped by my journey through family restructuring, my artistic voice aims to amplify underrepresented stories, especially those of East and Southeast Asian creators and children in family separation. I strive to create inclusive narratives that resonate with all children, reflecting the diverse tapestry of experiences. Ultimately, my aspiration is to be remembered as an artist who brings complex emotions to light, offering solace and a sense of belonging through the power of storytelling.
