Aditya Adam

I’m Aditya Adam, the person behind the illustration project damdampops. I grew up in Yogyakarta on Java Island and now I’m based in Bali, Indonesia. My work is shaped by bold lines and quirky characters, often inspired by small moments I notice while cycling by the beach near my home. I love translating everyday life into simple characters with personality, using illustration as a way to slow down and pay attention while everything else moves so fast.

I’ve had the chance to initiate Sama-Sama, a pop-up project in collaboration with art space, Center Kanuma in Tochigi, Japan, and to work with Japanese musicians like N-Feni, Aoi Tagami, and uo-uchu on album covers and merchandise. More recently, I created key visuals for Setouchi Asia Gallery in Shodoshima, Japan, which has been one of my favorite collaborations. My process usually begins with observation and sketching, then moves into loose character studies before I develop the final work digitally. Keeping the hand-drawn element alive is important to me because it helps the work stay human, imperfect, and full of character.

Outside of work, I like to spend my Sundays cycling, laying on the beach, and sketching. Those quiet moments are a big part of how I recharge and stay connected to the small details that inspire me. I think that balance of observation, play, and slowness naturally finds its way back into my illustrations.
