Sam was born and raised in Novosibirsk, Russia. Now he lives in Kaliningrad, the most western part of Russia, so it allows him to travel the world more often.
He has been painting from childhood and he experienced two important moments that influenced his work. The first was when he was presented with the book "How to Draw Comics" by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The second was when he saw "Tank Girl" comics from Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin, which greatly changed his style.
Sam likes to follow the comic book style and combine different artistic elements, bringing something new. Clear contours, angularity, dynamic poses, accents on colour spots and large lettering are dominated in his pictures. He doesn’t aim for a realistic style and he really likes cartoon characters. Sam often uses quite dark humour in his illustrations.
His favourite artists are Jamie Hewlett, Ashley Wood and Jim Mahfood. He likes movies such as "Mad Max", "Indiana Jones", "Back to the Future", "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and many others.
When he doesn’t draw he really likes cycling, playing the drums and running around the field with a basketball while imagining a crowd of fans :).
