My name is Mariana Ardanaz and I'm from Punta Lara, a small town nearby the river in Argentina. When I think about my childhood, I remember being a dreamy, expressive, restless girl. That's, indeed, the reason I became a book illustrator! I've studied Arts at the Fine Arts University in La Plata, Buenos Aires. This allowed me to discover a technique that is nowadays my channel of expression: plasticine/ clay art. It gives me the opportunitty to draw, paint, and especially model. But most importantly, it connects me to a practice I will never give up: playing! I've illustrated many children's books, magazines, and also made characters and scenery for animated films. I belong to the Cartoonists Association from Argentina (ADA in Spanish), where we share experiences, learn and fight for our labour rights. I also like dancing, watching movies and enjoying the sunshine with my daughter Matilda and Lucas, my partner.
